Use Lockers
Export your Locker content and files
Download supported community content and uploaded files in one ZIP or resumable numbered ZIP parts.
The short version
- The current owner can export after confirming an authenticator or recovery code for the session.
- Export a small community in one ZIP, or use numbered parts for a larger download that can resume for 48 hours.
- Keep every part and check completion before relying on the export. Private messages, learning records, private People records, imported contacts, video files, account data, and billing data are left out.
Before you start
Sign in as the owner on the community's hosted Lockers address. Open Account security and set up an authenticator if needed, then confirm this session. An admin role alone cannot export community data.
Both Community and Pro support exports. Make space on your device for the downloaded ZIPs and, if using parts, a reconstructed copy. Keep exports private because they contain member and community information.
Avoid editing or deleting content while the export runs. Records created after it starts are excluded, and different pages can be read at different times. The export does not capture one frozen moment across the whole community.
Download one ZIP
A single ZIP contains supported records and uploaded files. Large downloads can outlast a request, so use the numbered-parts option if the single ZIP cannot finish. Keep the community intact until you have a complete export.
- 1
Open the Danger zone
Select Admin, then Settings. On the General page, the export buttons are inside the Danger zone card at the bottom.
- 2
Select Download one ZIP
Save the file your browser downloads. Its name starts with lockers- and ends with .zip.
- 3
Check completion
Open the ZIP and read manifest.json. It must say complete: true. A missing manifest, complete: false, an export-failed.json file, or a ZIP that cannot open means the export did not finish.
Download and resume numbered parts
Starting a new export creates a separate set of parts. Keep each set in its own folder. The browser remembers a resume reference, but you must keep the files you already downloaded.
- 1
Start the export in parts
Choose Export in parts to folder if your browser supports a folder picker. Choose a local folder and keep the export-specific folder that Lockers creates there. Other browsers show Start export in parts.
- 2
Keep every numbered ZIP
A browser with folder access can save the remaining parts into that folder. Other browsers download one part at a time; save each file before selecting Download next part. Keep the original filenames and every completed part.
- 3
Resume the same export
You can leave the page and resume the same export for 48 hours after starting it. Pause after this part stops at a clean point. If authenticator confirmation expires, the page says The export paused. Verify your account and resume the same export. Confirm again on the same community address and resume.
- 4
Save the final part
Continue until the page says All parts are ready. The final part contains the completion manifest, ordered checksums, reconstruction instructions, and reconstruct.py. Earlier parts alone do not form a complete export.
Check and reconstruct the parts
Extract the final part and read its README.txt. The supplied reconstruct.py script requires Python 3.9 or later. Follow the command in the README, pointing it to the folder holding every numbered ZIP and a new output folder.
The script checks the part sequence, checksums, record counts, and uploaded-file contents before confirming completion. It creates a new output folder and leaves the original ZIPs in place. Keep both until you have checked the result. If a check fails, keep your community intact and retry or contact support.
Reconstruction assembles the exported records and files on your device. Lockers does not offer an import that rebuilds a community from this archive.
What the export includes
- Community branding and settings, and member roster summaries for this community, including supported profile names and email fields.
- Join requests and their status.
- Post categories, posts, post drafts, and comments.
- Events, event sessions, event access records, registrations, session picks, and session attendance.
- Authors, courses, modules, lessons, lesson blocks, download records, quiz definitions and questions, and certificate templates.
- Poll totals without the identity of individual voters.
- Supported files uploaded to Lockers and attached to the exported content. Shared uploaded files are packaged once.
- Details and IDs for uploaded videos. The video files themselves are not in the ZIP.
What the export leaves out
This is a community content export. Private People records stay in Admin, then People, and imported contacts stay on its Contacts tab. For a personal-information request, contact support@lockers.social and identify the account and community involved.
- Direct messages and private notifications.
- Private learning notes, quiz attempts, written responses, tutor conversations, learning progress, and video playback positions.
- Private notes, tags, follow-up dates, and saved views from People, and imported contacts.
- Uploaded video files, original files, captions, and thumbnails.
- Global account and security information, global profile photos, payment or billing records, provider credentials, and operational logs.
- Individual reaction history.
- Copies of externally hosted files. External videos, embeds, and downloads remain links to their providers.
If the export does not finish
- Confirm that you are the current owner and that your authenticator confirmation is still active on this address.
- Allow downloads or folder access in your browser. A browser without folder access needs a separate click for each part.
- If content changed after a part was prepared, select Start new export and keep its parts separate from the earlier attempt.
- Contact support@lockers.social with the community address and error. Do not send the whole export unless support arranges an appropriate way to share it.
