Use Lockers
Understand Community and Pro limits
Check what Community and Pro allow, including video minutes, and what happens when your Locker reaches an allowance.
The short version
- Community includes unlimited active memberships, unlimited courses, 1 GB of file storage, and 120 minutes of uploaded video.
- Pro keeps unlimited members and courses and raises file storage to 25 GB and uploaded video to 1,200 minutes.
- Video minutes and file storage are separate allowances. Reaching an allowance stops the next new item and removes nothing already in your Locker.
Who this is for
You need to be the owner or an admin to see the meters described below. Both plans have limits, so this applies whether your Locker is on Community or Pro. Each Locker has its own plan, so upgrading one Locker does not change another.
What each plan allows
Pro storage is 25 GB and Pro video is 1,200 minutes. Neither is unlimited, so a Locker with heavy files or long videos can still reach its ceiling. The custom domain allowance is one hostname per Locker on Pro.
- Active memberships: Community and Pro have no count cap.
- Courses: Community and Pro have no count cap.
- File storage: Community includes 1 GB. Pro includes 25 GB.
- Uploaded video: Community includes 120 stored minutes. Pro includes 1,200. Video is measured by length and does not use file storage.
- Custom domains: Community includes none. Pro includes one.
- Course tutor: Pro only. Each learner can send the tutor up to 40 messages a day in a Locker.
- People: Community and Pro both include member search, contact import, invitations, notes, tags, follow-up dates, and saved views, plus join approval where it is available. Pro adds detailed learning progress and the Purchased but not started filter.
Check your current usage
- 1
Open Admin
Open your Locker and select Admin.
- 2
Open Locker subscription
Select Settings, then Locker subscription.
- 3
Read the plan meters
The Billing card shows the Members, Courses, and Files meters. They show the same usage Lockers checks before it accepts a new member, a new course, or a new file.
- 4
Read the video meter
The Uploaded videos card shows Video storage as minutes used out of your allowance, then the minutes stored and any minutes reserved for uploads still in progress.
What happens at an allowance
- Memberships: Community and Pro do not cap active memberships. A new member can join, and approving a request under People, then Requests, is not refused for a member count.
- Courses: Community and Pro do not cap courses. Staff can create and duplicate another course. File storage and stored video can still refuse a new upload.
- Files: a new attachment that would push the Locker past its file storage allowance is refused.
- Video: an upload longer than the minutes left is refused with This video exceeds the community's available video minutes. The same check applies on Pro at 1,200 minutes. Where a Locker records live sessions, each saved replay uses video minutes too, and a recording that would go past the allowance is not saved.
Length limits for one video
Separate from the Locker's total, a single lesson video can run up to 120 minutes and a single post video up to 10 minutes. Upload a video to a lesson or post covers the upload steps.
If a Locker leaves Pro
A custom domain keeps routing through its grace period, which runs for 14 days after paid Pro ends. Members reach the community at the same address during that time, and nothing in the Locker is removed.
After the grace period the custom address stops routing. Anyone who opens it is sent to your name.lockers.social address, and members sign in again there. The domain card then offers Upgrade to Pro to restore routing, which puts the custom address back in use. The guide on your community's web address explains what members see under each address.
The video allowance returns to 120 minutes. Videos already attached keep playing, and new uploads are refused until stored minutes fit under the allowance.
People stays available on Community. The Purchased but not started view is unavailable until Pro returns, and the screen says so instead of changing what that view means.
Free up storage or video minutes
A file counts against storage once it is attached to something in the Locker. Deleting or replacing a supported attachment releases the bytes it was using, which brings the Files meter back down and lets the next upload through.
Removing a video from its lesson or post releases its minutes after Lockers finishes deleting it, as long as nothing else uses it. A copied course shares the original video, so its minutes stay counted until every copy stops using it.
If the numbers look wrong
- Refresh the page after adding or deleting a member, course, file, or video. The meters report current usage rather than a cached figure.
- Confirm whether the Locker is on Community or Pro before comparing usage against an allowance.
- Remove a course, attachment, or video you no longer need if you want to stay on Community.
- The owner can review Pro under Settings, then Locker subscription, when the Locker needs a higher allowance or a custom domain.
Course sales and membership in Lockers
Selling is available after the Locker owner connects a Stripe account and completes payment setup.
Each Locker has its own Free or Pro plan. A free-to-join Locker can sell individual courses: the Lockers platform fee is 5% on Free and 1% on Pro. Paid membership requires Pro, includes every course, and has a 1% platform fee on each membership payment. Courses cannot be sold separately in a paid-membership Locker.
Payment processing costs extra. We calculate the platform fee after discounts and before tax. When a payment is refunded, we return the proportional platform fee; payment-provider fees follow the provider’s rules.
The course sales, paid memberships, and fees guide explains payment setup, event tickets, and the rules for existing buyers. Your Locker's member, course, file, and video allowances still apply.
