Use Lockers
Manage member roles, access, and who can post
Make someone a Moderator or Admin, remove or restore a member, and keep a category for staff posts.
The short version
- Only the owner assigns roles. The choices are Member, Moderator, and Admin.
- Owners and admins can remove, ban, or restore members from Manage member. Only the owner can act on another admin.
- Each category allows posts from all members or only from moderators, admins, and owners. Everyone can still read and reply.
What each role can do
- Member: reads the community, posts in categories open to members, and comments.
- Moderator: everything a member can do, plus pinning posts, deleting other people's posts and comments, and posting in staff-only categories. Moderators do not open Admin, billing, settings, or private member records.
- Admin: manages community settings, People, courses, and moderation. Admins cannot change roles, see member payment amounts, or take payment actions.
- Owner: one per Locker. The owner assigns roles, sees payment amounts, manages payments and the Locker subscription, and is the only person who can export or delete the Locker.
Open a member's record
There are two ways in, and both open the same Manage member panel. From Admin, then People, select the person on the Members tab. Or open the community's Members directory, where owners and admins see a Manage member button on each row.
The panel has a Membership tab and a Courses tab. The owner also sees a Payments tab. Closing the panel keeps your search and your place in the list.
Change a role
You need to be the owner, and the person needs an active membership. Moderator and Admin also require the person to have verified their account email. Lockers can ask the owner to confirm their identity before the change saves.
- 1
Open Manage member
Open the person's record from People or the Members directory.
- 2
Choose the role
Under Membership settings, choose Member, Moderator, or Admin in Role.
- 3
Save the role
Select Save role. The panel shows Role updated.
Use the owner's Roles list
The owner also has a Roles list under Admin, then People, then Invitations. Each member row has buttons such as Make moderator and Make admin, which do the same thing as the Role control.
Transfer ownership sits in the same list. It makes that person the owner and changes you to an admin. Lockers refuses the transfer while the Locker has purchases, subscriptions, or pending checkouts, or while a Stripe account is connected for member payments, and the new owner needs a verified email. Contact support@lockers.social before you use it if you are unsure what happens to billing.
Remove, ban, or restore a member
An admin can act on members and moderators. Only the owner can remove or ban an admin, and nobody can remove the owner. Remove and Ban both end access the same way. The difference is the status you record, which the Status filter in People shows as Removed or Banned.
- 1
Open Manage member
Open the person's record.
- 2
Choose the action
Under Membership settings, select Remove member or Ban member.
- 3
Give a reason and confirm
The dialog reads: This person will lose access to the community. They cannot rejoin until staff restore their access. Their existing content will remain. Enter a Reason, which is required, then select Confirm.
Keep a category for staff posts
Announcements are the usual case: you want members reading and replying, but only staff starting new posts. Owners and admins change this setting. Moderators can post in a staff-only category but cannot change who can post.
- 1
Open Categories
Select Admin, then Community, then Categories.
- 2
Choose who can post
Beside the category, open Who can post and choose Moderators, admins, and owners. Choose All members to open it again. The choice saves when you select it.
If a control is missing
- No Role control: you are not the owner, the person is the owner, or their membership is not active. Restore a removed member before assigning a role.
- No Remove member or Ban member button: the record is your own or the owner's, or you are an admin looking at another admin.
- Someone is missing from the member list: the list starts at Active. Change Status to Removed, Banned, or All statuses.
- A change is refused with a request to confirm your identity: confirm with your authenticator, then try again.
